Content: Individuals who seek domestic violence restraining orders already face a system that puts obstacles in their path. When a person has a disability, these obstacles present even more of a barrier to safety. This presentation will examine some of the unique dynamics of violence against people with disabilities as well as the barriers that they face when seeking domestic violence protection orders. Additionally, it will present advocates and attorneys with tips for minimizing and eliminating the barriers throughout the process by making it more accessible to all.
