The NW Network of Bi, Trans, Lesbian and Gay Survivors of Abuse - In Their Shoes: An Inclusive LGBTQ Prevention Education Tool That You Should Be Using In Your Community!
Date/Time:Tuesday, February 6, 2018 / 12-1:30 CT
Content:Ilene Stohl, a prevention expert from the Washington State Coalition Against DV, will join us to talk about WSCADV’s youth education tool, In Their Shoes. In Their Shoes is a dynamic education tool, created in collaboration with diverse youth. Designed with the classroom in mind, In Their Shoes is an engaging way to talk with young people about healthy relationships and abuse. It is LGBTQ inclusive, and brings racial and social justice issues to the forefront in ways that push the envelope while still fitting within the school setting. With In Their Shoes, students participate by ‘becoming’ one of six teen characters and then confront decisions and consequences relating to texting, pregnancy, homophobia, and dating violence. Participants make choices and read about interactions with their dating partner, family, friends, school personnel, police, and others. Join us for this webinar where you’ll learn best practices, tips, and tricks for facilitation, including how to manage homophobia that may come up in classrooms regarding the LGBTQ characters.
