Description:  LGBTQ2S+ folks have always been at the forefront of the movement to end gender-based violence, but deep-seated homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism still can lead to bias and marginalization of LGBTQ2S+ survivors and staff. Join us to explore how rural advocacy programs can strengthen their support of LGBTQ2S+ survivors. It’s about more than just tweaking language and pronouns. It’s about reshaping organizational practices to truly support those on the margins. In this session, we will:

• Spot the issues: discuss the specific challenges that rural LGBTQ2S+ survivors face and how these are often overlooked.
• See the impact: look at how organizational philosophies and practices affect rural LGBTQ2S+ community members,including staff, survivors, and volunteers.
• Commit to action: pinpoint areas for improvement and explore practical strategies for creating more inclusive and responsive support systems in rural areas.
