Description: Most professionals who respond to sexual assault crimes are familiar with the concept of a medical forensic examination (MFE). This presentation will discuss the benefits and limitations of those examinations. Particular focus will highlight what law enforcement needs to know to encourage and educate victims on the benefits of an exam as well as how exam findings may impact criminal justice needs such as investigation and prosecution. While content was developed with law enforcement professionals in mind, this presentation is appropriate for all disciplines who respond to sexual violence.
