Putting Survivors First in Corrections Virtual Conference

Topic: Putting Survivors First in Corrections Virtual Conference

Hosted By: National Criminal Justice Training Center of Fox Valley Technical College

Date/Time: Thursday, October 20, 2022 1:00 AM - 6:45 AM ChST

Description: Note: This is a 4-day conference scheduled to run October 5th, October 12th, October 19th and October 20th Mountain Time. You must register for the full conference. Attendees are unable to sign up for individual days. Join us for this virtual conference focused on giving victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking a voice through survivorcentered approaches. Survivors are often an afterthought in our current criminal legal system. As such, many survivors do not feel heard or that the process focuses appropriately on their needs and repairing the harm they have experienced as a result of the criminal conduct they have experienced. Survivors can often feel revictimized by the current processes and their confidence in the criminal legal system is low, leaving them dissatisfied with the outcomes. Our virtual survivor-centered conference for corrections professionals is critical to enhancing survivor-centered approaches while meeting responsibilities to the community and criminal legal system clients. Daily schedule: Eastern Time: 11:00 am –4:45 pm | Central Time: 10:00 am – 3: 45 pm | Mountain Time: 9:00 am – 2:45 pm | Pacific Time: 8:00 am – 1:45 pm | Alaska Time: 7:00 am – 12:45 pm

Hosted By: Battered Women's Justice Project

Date/Time: Thursday, October 20, 2022 4:00 AM - 5:15 AM

This workshop will highlight data on murder-suicide, discuss the close ties between domestic violence-related homicide and suicide for the purpose of bolstering prevention efforts, explore the unique needs of survivors, and provide an overview of supportive interventions being cultivated in Georgia and a roadmap for similar implementation in attendees’ home communities.
