Topic: Housing Rights for Survivors of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Dating Violence and Stalking

Hosted By: Victim Rights Law Center

Date/Time:  Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 2:00am ChST

Description: Join the Victim Rights Law Center and guest presenter attorney Kate Walz, Associate Director of Litigation at the National Housing Law Project, for a webinar and companion Share & Learn discussion exploring how legal advocates can help survivors of gender-based violence exercise their housing rights. Kate will review the relevant federal housing protection laws and summarize the changes to housing law in the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Participants will then practice applying federal housing laws to a series of common scenarios. The companion Share & Learn discussion is an opportunity to ask follow-up questions, share resources and strategies, and discuss how best to protect survivors’ housing rights. Note: This webinar is for non-attorney legal advocates at community-based organizations that receive — or are eligible to receive — funding through the Office on Violence Against Women. Preventing Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking in the Community College Context

Topic: Preventing Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking in the Community College Context

Hosted By: Clery Center for Security On Campus

Date/Time: Wednesday, October 12, 2022 4:00 AM - 5:30 AM ChST

Description: This webinar will introduce a toolkit that addresses the prevention needs of the diverse student populations that attend community colleges across the US. This population accounts for an estimated 59% of all entering college students each year. They differ from their four-year counterparts in ways that present unique challenges for preventing dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking (DVSAS). To address this gap, Alteristic, Inc. created the Toolkit for Preventing Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking in the Community College Context for the United States Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women’s Campus Program. Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: - Understand some of the specific needs of students attending community colleges. - Identify prevention strategies tailored specifically for community colleges. - Articulate effective strategies for tailoring prevention content for community colleges. - Gain and exchange ideas from peers working in community colleges across the country.
