2020 kNOw More Webinar Series: Addressing Support for All Sexual Assault Survivors

Session Title: “Restorative Justice: Exploring Alternative Ways of Achieving Justice for SA Survivors in the CJ System, in Schools and in the Workplace”

Date: November 5, 2020

Time: 9:00 - 11:30 am ChST
Presenter: Janet Neeley

Description: Sexual assault survivors have long desired alternatives to the criminal justice system which often leaves them feeling unheard. Accountability for those who do harm is the core of what survivors want. The Restorative Justice approach provides survivors with an alternative justice process that depends on an acknowledgement of harm from the perpetrator from the beginning.  It facilitates communities coming together for collective solutions to address sexual violence.

Learning Objectives:
  • Learn why restorative justice can be a powerful and wanted option--for both survivors and perpetrators of sexual violence.
  • Learn the origins of circle and conferencing practices and their uses today
  • Explore how circle practice works in the campus context.
  • Understand how Title IX’s new regulations regard restorative justice alternatives
