Date: Wednesday. February 20, 2019

Time: 6:00 am – 7:00 am ChST

Content: The National Domestic Violence and Firearms Resource Center provides technical assistance and training on the effective implementation and enforcement of domestic violence-related firearm prohibitions.

This is an informational webinar geared to OVW grantees to explain the various forms of training and technical assistance available through the resource center. It is intended to give participants an overview of the project, including our newly re-launched website, Safer Families, Safer Communities. Originally launched in 2016, the Safer Families, Safer Communities website is the first of its kind, providing accurate, current information on topics relating to the intersection of domestic violence and gun violence.  The updated website provides improved accessibility to the user and expanded resources, including spotlights of model communities, practitioner-specific best practices for different stages of the legal process, and a comprehensive online library.

Among the many forms of training and technical assistance available through the resource center, this webinar will also focus the Crisis Response component of the project, which provides individual, targeted technical assistance to communities in the immediate aftermath of a domestic violence-involved firearms tragedy.

Even if you have used the website already or have received technical assistance from the resource center, this webinar should prove informative as the center expands its impact on this timely subject.

Presenters: Dave Keck, Director, National Domestic Violence and Firearms Resource Center and Kristine Lizdas, Legal Policy Director, Battered Women’s Justice Project
